Dirt Rider will be looking for a functional Off Road weapon, not some blinged out trailer queen special.

The More blingy anodized bull you guys put on that thing the louder the Dirt Rider guys will laugh at it.

Function Before Fashon!!!!!! All go no show!!!!!!

Any of you guys seen what that anodized red stuff looks like after a little time passes.....Like .! turns pink and looks horrible.

Now back to your regular programming......

I have to agree. Bling for the sake of a fashion statement imho is a waste of time and money. Sure would be embarassing to have something that is all show and no go. That being said, have you checked out what the boys at TT are doing? A 60 hp dual sport. Sounds interesting. No amount of bling will overcome a perfectly functioning off-road monster. It seems like they are all on the same page. Should be an interesting contest where we will ALL be winners.

I'm not so sure DD. Goodness knows DR is all about the bling. Take out the myriad of bling-advertisements and it's only about a 3 page rag.

And they sure throw the $$$ at some really worthless bolt-on crap products for some of their test bikes.

Have you seen thier project 450x? its always covered in mud, all they do is flog the dogshoot out of it.

Give them something super functional that they can beat the crap out of and not break. Let the other guys do the bling thing.

DD...if you feel the group is missing something from a function standpoint this would be a good time to be specific. please read the mods threads, review the mods list posted, and if you believe this won't be a functional offroad bike post back with specific recommendations. i'm sure we are all open for some last minute suggestions and discussion.

Hmm, I'd take a look at the mods list. The "Bling" is just extra. This bike will have more function than any bike on this forum probably.

Dirt Rider may critique the looks, but what they really care about is how it performs as a package. And with the parts chosen, it will perform damn well.

The bike is supposed to represent the forum, and afterall, we DO have the KING OF BLING residing here. (Doug)

I just re-read the mods list after reading DD's post thinking I missed something but I didn't see all that much bling on there that isn't also a "functional" item. I think two engine plug covers and two brake reservoir caps? That is hardly going crazy. Now if I was king here, I would go with the black rims and silver hubs but we can't have everything.

That's a damn good list by the way, good job boys!

Trying to skip all the reading..Is there going to be some engine work done? The hero over at TT (fried, toasted, or whatever his nic is) is supposed to be making this big fire breathing 60 hp machine with his special dry assembly techniques...Granted they will need it with a 400 lb pig DRZ but Im just curious...Thanks for not making me read through pages of stuff.

there was one suggestion of a possible big bore kit...most didn't agree that this would be a good mod to include as it doesn't represent the mods of board members. as a result it would be an unknown in many respects such as power delivery, durability, and overall target design (offroad/trail) bike.

Please don't do the bore kit for the reasons you stated Ken.

I believe we covered the necessary mods to build a great test bike. Most of us agreed the 450X is already a great bike but due to factory jetting and other minor details The magazine didn't give it the love or respect it deserved. This being a point this group wanted to show them what this bike could do with minor mods. The parts we felt would best improve performance where added although not a lot where needed, this is where the bling comes in a little cool factor can go a long way. We are not gonna give DR a mean nasty 500cc thumper that kicks like a jack rear on steroids. We chose to give them a reliable trail bike, a peoples bike that could be competitively raced and reliable. if we did not add some neat goodies on this bike it wouldn't give a great photo shoot in stock form would it? I think the Bling serves a purpose in the case of our objective.

I agree theres not much that needs to be done to the engine. I also agree that there doesnt need to be tons of shiny garbage all over the bike. Turns it into a garage queen at that point. Some bling is ok, just not gaudy.
