    450R rear sprocket

    by mhnracing » Sun Apr 16, 2006 10:03 pm

I have a 2004 CRF450R. I am looking to put a smaller rear sprocket on it to make the exceleration a little more smooth. Any recommendations on how many teeth I should go with? currently I have a 48T.

What front are you running, its often easier to change the front over and only need relatively small chain adjustments particularly if you are near the end of its adjustment range than to change the rear which costs more too.

48 is pretty high already, you may have other issues that cause your problem. Heck, Team Honda is running 47 on rear and that's to go like 110 mph! It all depends on what type of riding you do,,,MotoX, Enduro, Trails? It it's Motox I recommend 14/48. Trails and Enduro more like 14/49-51. I agree with changing the front sprocket before the rear if you want to save money however be careful of clearance issues with your engine case, especially if your running O-ring chain. I run 14/49 on my 06 450-X and top out at about 85 (approx.) but still have a low enough 1st/2nd for tight technical stuff.
Try different combinations till you get what you want,,,good luck.
