I dont have the book for this damn thing and I'm trying to figure out how much oil goes back in the transmission and the crank case ...

Anyone know? Ive searched the internet but I cant find it

It depends on if you are changing the oil filter or not ....

Here is the specs from the Factory Honda Service Manual



So basically about 3/4 of a quart for the engine and a little over 1/2 a quart for the tranny ... you can run a full quart in the tranny side without any issues , but keep to the recommended specs for the engine side .... , you can measure the Liter as cc's , so 670cc without filter change , 700cc with filter change and 750cc for tranny

I have a 2006 CRF-450 X
( Purchesed New )
Converted Street Legal Duel-Sport
While riding @ 65 MPh on a local CA Freeway, my Transmission Seized up solid ... ( welded 3rd gear to Countershaft )
Running 750cc Transmission fluid
After much research, found out that running 946 cc in the transmission, submerges the countershaft & 3rd Gear , preventing this problem .
Running more than 1 Quart can lead to excess oil exiting your overflow tube , contaminating your Rear Brake Calilper & Rear Tire ....
My suggestion is to run 1 quart quality MA rated oil in the Teansmission & Honda Reccommended lever MB rated oil in the engine side ...

That sucks to hear about your tranny seizing , but yea ... unfortunately , it is a known issue , that is why the majority of us run a full qt. in the tranny side , and yes , I also would not recommend running more than that , but 1 full qt. will not hurt anything or cause any ill effects .... I have a 06 and have been running a full qt. since I first heard about the issue (on these forums soon after I got my X and joined this site soon afterwards ....I actually got my X in June of 05) and I recommend it for anyone whether running on the street or desert high speed stuff , or just trail or track riding like I do with mine ....
