So we had this crf100f that originally had problems where it would sputter and never get full power and then just died..so we cleaned the carburetor, but the throttle cable broke and the screws were stripped so it sat for a couple years I know. We recently cleaned out the carb and replaced the carb. Well we got it running but it has a few issues. It backfires and is hotter then I ever remember..at one point a saw a large flame come out the back which I assume isn't normal. Other issues are it idles extremely high, yes we turned down the idle screw but is still very high. Also if I barely twist the throttle it basically redlines. One more thing. Gas keeps leaking out the carb when the fuel is set to on or reserve.. if it sits like in between it's okay. I don't know a ton about this and could use any advice at this point. You have issues with the float. It's either the float height and or the float valve. In addition, it sounds like you might have clogged jets. Replace them as they are very difficult to clean completely. There could be other issues as well but start with resolving these and test.
