Questions about Camshaft for Supermoto(i used the search :D)

    by kaiserkaiser » Mon Dec 21, 2015 4:28 pm

Hi there, i have a CRF450X of 2005 and i use it to ride it in the road in supermoto wheels and gearing 15-42. She have 2005 crf450r Exhaust and i searching for 2005 crf450r header too.
I have a bunch of questions:
Changing Camshaft does a noticeable fuel consumption change?
Wich the best Camshaft for supermoto use in the street. Mine lacks in top speed power(melows), is that the same thing as top end?
I seen that the 2002 R cam is really good all around but the Honda bulletin talks about 13110-MEN-670 cam (wich year is that?)

Thank you for the help, i already read a bunch of post but didnt get the right answers.

Generally speaking, more power comes at the expense of more fuel consumption. However, it depends on other factors than just the cam swap.

The R or R-like (Hot Cams Stage 2) cams will provide more power up top than the X cam. The 02 R cam was Honda's most aggressive profile. Fitted to your X with a R head and a piston with increased compression will wake up the motor and provide excellent pulling in higher RPM's.

    Here's a link to the '02 R cam:

The 2004 has good top end and reasonable mid range. However, it lacks bottom end pull.

That means that the bike will get less torque then the X cam at bottom end.

We haven't compared the '04 R to the X cam head to head so I can't answer that question. I personally have a '05 R cam and it's is my cam of choice. The '02 and the '05 R cams are the most used R cams in the X. The '05 doesn't have any lost down low and has a lot more pull up top.

Ok , thank you. My only problem in my CRF450X is thatr the bike is top end gets really flat.

R or R-Like cams will resolve the top end lack of power.
