welcome to CRF's Only. so, i'm very confused. you have a 450X that you converted to dual exhausts like the dual CRF250R use to have? is that correct? if so, post up some photos. we'd all love to see it. then the questions of "why" will follow. ;-)

the left side panel on a 450X as you know has the air box door and it also contains the electronics. a 450R side panel is not designed to fit and not sure how much "monster garaging" you'd have to do to get it to "work" nor what it would look like after. not to mention what you'd have to do to get the muffler spacing. we'd be interested in seeing what you come up with.

I've seen it on 450R's (the dual 250 pipes) and they use a 250R left number plate.

Twin pipes look awesome but any performance gain (if any) is negated by additional weight and expense.

I'm not familiar with the X electronics/subframe/air box but my guess is you'll have to cut holes in the air box side covers to make up for losing the vent on the left number plate. Then relocate whatever electronics are there either inside the air box or directly under the seat if there's room.

And of course you'll need to weld mounts to the subframe.

My response won't help you at all but ... Sic bike! Looks like LOTS of hard work went into it. That bike just screams W.O.T.

That bike is incredible, those two pictures do it no justice... If you want to see more, search google images for "Taffymoto CRF450R" and "Taffymoto CR500AF" <-- (see my avatar)

i wondered about this mod as well and had a few long chats with taffy.
not to sure about power gains but i like to do things very different from others

so rather than buying a 250 system and converting to fit a 450r
i did a search on us ebay and came across leo vince full system made for the 450 and comes complete with carbon side panel`s
    2x ti mufflers
    full fitting kit
2 plugs for when your washing the bike

and all that for $399 or £256
they wont ship to uk but i managed to get a friend in cali to do it for me and he`s just recived them from leo vince
so i should recieve them just after the year and once the bike`s back together ill def be posting loads of pics up.

Was that a used system or new from an eBay store? Link?

On the topic of exhausts does anyone know what is required to fit 05-08 exhaust on an 03 450?
