just a week or so ago someone posted their arrowhead ride pictures and it sounded like they have some good information about riding trails and such. i'll have to look around for him and ask him to reply. i live reasonably close, in fact, ride to arrowhead occasionally from silverwood lake area. however, i have never staged in arrowhead and ridden out from there. i'd be very interested in where you staged and what trails you found.

I will get my routes and pictures together this week. I used a cool iPhone app to emulate the Garmin features. Full details to come...

Pinnacles is a staging area north of Lake Arrowhead. It is on Hwy 173. From 210 Fwy take State Hwy 18. Head North up the mountain toward Crestline and on to Lake Arrowhead. Turn left at 173 toward Lake Arrowhead. Continue through Arrowhead across the lake and notice the Hospital on the right side of the road on the north side of the lake. You may need it sometime. :)

    Image

Continue on 173 another 8 miles of beautiful winding asphalt easy to tow a trailer. Pinnacles Staging is on your left. If you pass a cattle grate or shooting range you went too far.

    Image

The staging area driveway is sometimes very very rutted. 4x4 low when pulling a large trailer is a good idea. Right now it is smooth as silk. The staging area has pit toilets, picnic tables & trash cans.

Most of the trails are 50". Please leave your UTVs at home or keep them on forest roads.

2W01 is the only single track left. You cross Deep Creek to get to it. We have adopted 2W01 through the SBNF Adopt-a-trail program. At the top of the trail you must ride across White Mountain which is a very rocky Jeep crawl in places to return the loop to Big Pine Flats where you can take Redonda Ridge (1W17) back or Green Sticker Legal fire roads. 1W17 is the most challenging OHV trail on the mountain and is a total blast.

Make sure you have an Adventure Pass if you stage at Pinnacles. Costs you $5 per day or $35 per year. You can pick one up at Jensens market on 173. While it's not a camp ground you can get away with staying over night. But keep in mind it is basically a dirt parking lot on top of the mountain.

This is a spot we obviously spend a lot of time. You are always welcome to tag along on one of our rides to learn the trails... and even pitch in on a Trail Work Day if you are into that Giving Back sort of thing... :D

In fact, RIDERS welcomes new people on all of our rides !

It looks like you had a great ride. I ride in this area on a regular basis during the week only.
    Thanks for the pictures

My family and our usual desert group went up there 2 summers ago. What a blast!!! I loved the riding there! We pulled trialers to a home we rented out for the weekend, and parked the trailers on the street and rode to the trails from out house (not far). We rode to silverwood lake as well, and on the way back we took the "shortcut" rather than taking the long flat trail and WOW talk about some fun hillclimbs! Pretty tough as we were spinning the whole way up but it was nonetheless awsome. We explored as much as possible, going to the staging area, a riding parking area, etc. One ranger was there and made sure we had our spark plugs and stickers. I can't wait to ride up there again.
