    CRF450R Wide-Ratio Transmission

    by crfsonly » Thu May 06, 2010 1:49 pm

Good news for CRF450R owners! We are pleased to announce the development of a wide ratio transmission for the 2002-2008 CRF450R. This has been in development for some time now and the final testing on production units has been completed.

This kit replaces gears second through fifth. This has not been added to our catalog because we have limited supplies and I wanted to offer this our message board members first.

Please PM me if you are interested in securing a kit.

Ok...getting a lot of PM's with questions. Here are the details

The standard price is $600 but I'm offering the first 10 at $510.

CRF450 Main Counter Ratio % increase
    First 15 27 1.800 0.0
    Second 17 25 1.471 22.4
    Third 17 21 1.235 19.0
    Fourth 20 21 1.050 17.6
    Fifth 22 20 0.909 15.5

    New Gearing
    First 15 27 1.800 0.00
    Second 16 22 1.375 30.91
    Third 18 20 1.111 23.75

    Fifth 25 19 0.760 20.14

We'll be offering optional installation services through ~ along with gasket/seal kits. Of course while the cases are split it's a good time to do a top end and valve job.

Ok...question...what would a wide ratio trans actually do or help you benefit from? A good time to do this would be when it's time for a new bottom end which is prb a year away for me.

I am looking to get on this fall or winter when I do a top end and valves. This kit should help me as I have a plated CRF450R and use it occasionaly to connect trail systems here in Colorado. As it is now I swap between a 13 and 15 tooth front sprocket when I transition from singletrack to hwy. Way to busy on the road with the stock 13 and not even close to working good enough to pull technical sections with the 15. As all of my riding starts @ 6500 ft and goes up, gearing is my best friend with the approx 20% loss in power due to the altitude.
you guys have got it good down close to sea level, where one could use the extra power to help compensate for gearing problems. Hope this helps in your questions.

Has anyone tried these gears yet?
I've blown my gearbox again and might try this when I rebuild it.

I have experience with them as far as building engines using them. I have yet to ride a bike with them.

I can tell you that the quality meets or exceeds the OEM gearsets and the install was no more complicated than installing OEM. The gears all mesh nicely and are very smooth and quiet.
