    What bike for my size

    by Marine » Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:26 am

Hello, I am new here and am intersted in getting a bike. I used to have a XR250 growing up for several years and now that I am 26 years old I want to get back into it. I am 6'2" tall and weigh 190lbs

I can recal the 250 not being near enough power for me and was very sluggish. Now that I am wanting to purchase a new bike I am looking both at the CRF250X and the CRF450X and not real sure what bike would be the best fit for me. I am leaning towards the 450 just because of my past experience with the XR250.

I know the bikes have really gotten alot better than the old school XR's but can someone please help me and give some examples of the size guys that normally ride the 250/450 respectivily?

    Thank you!

sizewise there is not much difference between the 250 and 450

a stock XR250 is a 7/8 bike, small, plush and much too low for you
    you can not compare a stock XR250 and a CRF250 (X or R)

even for the CRF (250 and 450) at 6-2 you should think about bar raisers and tall seatfoam
at 190lb you are within stock range of both suspensions

EV, I am 6'6" and have not reason for bar raisers or higher seats. I run TAG fatties and they are confortable as Heck...
As for which bike, at 190 lbs the 250 4-stroke will get boring fast.

I'm 6-5 , 258, and yup, a former jarhead and current full-time Army Guard recruiter.
I would suggest the 450X , bet you love it. I fit on mine just fine, just raised the bars a little. Doug

    crf450r the crf450x is like the 250xr

Those 2 bikes have absolutely nothing in common with each other pal, other than that both heve 2 wheels and are made by Honda. Absolutely NOTHING.
You know, first you post a bunch of unintelligible crap knowone can understand, when gently corrected you respond by calling our members vulgur names. You would fit right in over on ThumperTalk, why not check it out.
Second, I doubt seriously you own a CRF450 because of your staggering display of ignorance of the subject matter.
You're not going to fool anyone over here, why not try somehere else ?
Or,apologize for your pre-pubescent manners and start over. Doug

    wasn't that my line, Dobent?
do I neglect CRF's to much? sorry
all the Trials forums with so many Brits writing are family, non of that kiddy-speak
and it is not all repetition, yet

the endless 250/450, 250/230, what oil and which noisy exhaust drives me away - sorry

    Marine, where do you ride?
how do you ride - style and speed?
can you picture your lil'XR fully tricked, big bore, exhaust, ported, carb, suspension ...
then add another 3 or 4000 revs, a couple of horses and A LOT of suspension
if you think you can ride that to it's full potential more than occasionally
or if you spend your time on fire roads or in the desert
    get a 450

    yyyyyyesss, but

why is it so hard to use search first
    and ask specific questions then?
the hardest part seems to find the search button

lately I try to stay away when I am not 'in the mood'
I do bite my tongue often enough as is
e.g I would have loved to tell
I am 6'6" and have not reason for bar raisers or higher seats
if you'd get your rear and ellbows up you'd know what I mean
but hey, I am just an elderly housewife,
no reason for me to care about his aches or posture

and thanks, I enjoy missing Prince Charming,
meanwhile I gave up any attempt to understand this teeny gibberish,
if they do not want me to know, am Abend

first id like to make clear doug u must be god! now that everone knows that! i do own an 02 crf450r now personaly i never said that the 450r 450x and the 250xr we the same what i simply said was when u set yur suspension right all three of those bikes will soak up the bumbs. for all i have to say about this topic is if u like trail riding get the 450x if u like motocross get the r or if u just simply want deep down power all the time and u dont care when u ride it put motard tires on the 450r and its good for the road. its not a bad bike for the trails but its more ment for motocross, supercross, nationals and if yur a . i wouldnt get a 450 period. and if u have some ballz like the doug character and think u know everything and have to correct everybody and want to leave trenches to berry all the incoherent assholes and love the power get the 450r but remember its not what your riding but how you ride it beleieve me the 250's will beat the 450's any day its all about the rider! no hard feelings
