    Replacing Tires

    by zuma711 » Mon Jan 05, 2009 1:22 pm

OK I know I am cheap. I race in harescrambles once or twice a month and replace my tires once a year (10 months). But my buddies replace when the rear tire starts to lose its edge. For a "C" rider is the edge that important? I know if I were racing "A" or Pro class It might, But "C" class. Let me know if I need to break out the wallet more often.

    Break out the wallet!!! 8)

Seriously, it's up to you, it's your bike.
The question is will you notice an improvement in handling with a good square edge vs a worn tire?

    I think you should.

But I'm one of those guys. My friends come over and use my "worn" tires on their bikes.

If you are not a serious racer I wouldn't worry about it. I sometimes purposely let it get really worn out so that I can practice keeping my momentum up which is essential for being a faster rider. If you really want a clean edge without buying a new tire you can always take the tire off and flip it around for a sharper edge.

Look around the pits at your competitors tires. If the rider you are trying to beat has a newer tire than you, run over to the pit shop and buy a new tire and install it, then you can roost your competition. :P

I have heard of a trick by using a a soldering iron with a flat tip and creating a brand new edge haven't tried it out myself but I am cheap as well so ill try it when I get the new tires the ones I have now are almost flat on main knobbie but some good side tread Haha ..

I have been looking at some tires at another site.com the combo of front and rears is $90 they are artrax is there something about them that makes it a bad tire ? Also I have a 2006 crf450r will the 120 90 19 tire fit ? I've heard if your chain is loose then it will catch the side knobs any feedback is appreciated

Most of bike owners never leave the house without checking first their tires. And if there is a need for replacement of the tires and other parts of the bike, they usually go to repair shop since it will save time and effort. So for you guys, I'd like to share this article here with you: Questions to keep an honest mechanic honest.
