Help: How do you remove a 2005 CRF450 engine?

by [email protected] » Sat Nov 15, 2008 1:35 pm

I need help. I am taking my engine in for work. They will reduce the cost greatly if I bring the engine in alone. I have everything disconnected, wiring, carb, pipe etc. But how do you get that thing out of the frame? It is like it is shoe horned in there. Do I need to remove the shock, radiators, ignition coil etc. Is there a tip this, twist that method that helps. Before I mess something up, please shoot me some advise.

    Thanks. B

Remove the coil. Remove the valve cover (not necessary, but makes it easier.

Lift the back end(trans side) up and rotate it counter clockwise to where it's coming out the right side of the frame. Tilt it up so the water pump clears the engine mount on the frame.
Slide it out the right side of the frame.
