    Shift Lever

    by heli-pilot » Mon Aug 08, 2005 7:03 pm

    Hi every one!
Is there any aftermarket shifters that are longer and have a folding tip? My girlfriend is having trouble getting her foot under to shift up, the shifter is too close to the peg. Have TIG welder, can modify something with the folding tip.
    Thanks!

ims makes a fairly inexpensive replacement lever and it's foldable...you can check it out here:

I would change out the shifter as soon as possible. I know from experience with my boys bikes that the shifter is the first item to get bent after their first spill. Since installing these aftermarket shifters, they have never had a shifter issue in the field. The IMS option that Ken has here at CRFOnly looks to be of good quality.

You won't be sorry. Trust me, there is nothing more frustrating than trying to bend a shifter back to operational level when you are 20 miles from the truck.

I agree the shift levers do bend to much and its to close when you have big feet. One sugesting is when your out 20 miles from your truck bring a small pvc pipe so you stick it on over the shifter and bend it back to where you want it after your spill.

The IMS is an ok shifter. We put one on my friends bike but it is almost the same size as sock maybe even smaller. It bent also... :x
