    CRF450R Pistons

Difference between Forged or Cast pistons? I understand forged is lighter cast the other and will rev faster but not last as long. Is this true? Is there other differences? What is the best for reliability? Performance? Any things to know before buying a WISCO, PRO X or other piston?

Not all forged pistons are heavier than the cast. The forged are stronger than cast however and should in theory last longer. I have not had good luck with Wiseco pistons in 2 strokes though.

They (nobody) dont even offer a cast piston for the CRF450R.

The reason is, there is so little to the piston as it is, a cast one wouldnt last at all.

The CRF450R and 250 for that matter have almost no skirt.

They basically amount to a ring holder.

The skirt is where all the power is driven from. And because the skirt is already so dang short, a cast one probably wouldnt last more than a race or two before it was all collapsed and scuffing the ring to death.

That said, JE is what I'll replace my stocker with when I do it...
