    How Young is Too Young?

    by jmattor » Tue May 29, 2007 9:05 pm

I'm not one to push my kids (or grand kids) to participate in any specific activity, although I do believe that kids should have an opportunity to try as many different things that interest them as possible (and within reason).

And I've found that some are quicker to learn than others!

When my son was about that age, I used to put in on the front of the seat and take him riding with me. Carefully of course. He loved it. Never too young if you are careful.

Mom & Dad say they are having a hard time finding a suitable helmet for an 18 mo. old - any suggestions?

My biggest concern over the weekend was that he'd run over and grab hold of a hot bike. We need to rig up a fence of some sort. :?

haha...I don't think that AGV makes an MX helmet that small!! On the hot bike front....some kids learn by instruction, some learn the hard way. My son listened to me and understood "hot, don't touch." My daughter doesn't listen very well and learned "hot, don't touch" on her own. The jury is still out on the 9mo old...

I suggest that they inquire in sports stores. Bicycle, snow, etc. There are products available. Finding a "motorcycle" helmet will be more difficult.

Bell Helmets make something called the Lil'Bell that might work.

Thanks Joe, Lil Bell, we had one of those for our now 16 yr old. I couldn't remember the name.

Wonder if they still make them. Guess I'll search now that I know what I'm looking for. 8)

Yeah, they are still making them. Go to Bells web site and you'll see them there.
