I have put 2 trips on my trials tire now. I didn't want to post my findings after the first trip because I thought I ran the pressure too low @ 12psi which contributed to the back end feeling a bit skaty in the high speed stuff. Raised it to 15psi for yesterdays trip and liked it better.

It is very good in the rocks, shale, etc. Uphills with loose rock were very confidence inspiring. High speed does not feel as stable as a good knobby to me whether it be single track, 2-track, sand wash or fire roads.

Bottom line, I think it will be excellent for certain applications like my typical Baja excursions through the single track out of Tecate, but not so much for my April trip doing 650 miles in 4 days. Again, these are early impressions, but mine are: slower and more technical = good, faster dez application = I'd prefer a knobby.

I have about 12 rides on mine. I lost a knobby at Sand Mountain in Utah. It sure hooks up!!! A little trouble with the fine sand but all other surfaces it is great. Road on slick rock in Utah and some lava rock which my friend had to buy a new knobby.=D>
When in doubt, hit the gas!!

The new Dirt RIDER mag has a comparison between all the trials tire brands and how they perform vs. a knobby. Chris

I agree with what Chris is saying about the trials tires. I'd rather have a knobby for real high speed applications in the desert too, I'm sure.
It'd be nice if one tire could do everything great.
For what's considered "off-road" the trials tires are pretty darn impressive on about anything you can throw at them. Doug
