The Chevy on the other hand has the same set-up as yours. It's great to see 55 mpg on a decent, but scarry to see 5 mpg when romping on it!
We'll hook up your trailer to the Duramax when you come up for Adventure Week and convert you to the diesel.
Brad
I had made the decision to go to a 2500 Duramax when I trade my current truck in...until I filled up yesterday at $ 3.17 per gallon and noticed Diesel was at $ 4.09!!!
Might have to rethink this...
I hear you on that, Paul. I too debated long and hard. For me it hinged on long term costs (buying a used diesel and selling my truck while it still has some value vs. putting in a new drivetrain at some point on my old truck and not being able to get any $$$ out of it upon resale, and then still needing a diesel).
I picked up my diesel truck about a month ago. Diesel was $3.19. Four weeks later the same station is at $3.69. 50ยข in a month!
While the price of diesel is high now, the added price per gallon is still not enough to overshadow the better mileage (at least at this point). Combine that with the added power and in my thinking, less overall cost as I will not have to replace my dead or dying unleaded, light-weight truck every few years. Besides, the Allison tranny is amazing, I've got four doors, and a long bed for the bikes and can still haul a trailer (read: doesn't have to be a toy hauler)... for $8K!

(Net difference after selling my truck).
As of now, the dollars and cents are still working in my favor. Time will tell...
Hmmm...Maybe I should plant a mess of corn and make bio-diesel.
Or, do what a friend of my parent's used to do and hire a tanker to pick-up some cheap diesel in Mexico and haul it north!
