Kickstart jamming, strang noise after Rekluse install

    by halgaruk » Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:23 pm

After taking my bike out today for the first time after installing the Rekluse, I noticed my Kickstart kept jamming up every so often.

Also noticed a knocking noise, when riding at say 5 mph, but soon as I hit the throttle the bike sounded normal.

The bike just didnt seem right so I brough it back home...

Have I installed the Rekluse wrong.... I'm not sure why the Kickstart is jamming all of a sudden, and what the strange noise is... like ball bearings knocking.

I've had a look at the clutch and it all seems as it was after install... all ball bearings are in place etc.

    Any ideas anyone???

The day went from bad to worse, now needing to replace the right side of the crank case (Dont ask!) I'm not a happy man.

Thanks in advance for your help

Great Write Up! I got mine installed in an hour or so. I will issue a word of warning about the eight screws that you install in the end. Don't torque them too much! I did and ripped the top right off one of the screws.

THE CLUTCH IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY! BEST MOD I HAVE EVER DONE.

How did you get away with using another stock gasket?? I thought the stock gasket was an O-ring and the rekluse gasket that your supposed to use when using your stock clutch cover was a much ticker paper gasket. There probably isn't enough clearance between your clutch and cover would be my first guess! Unless it's different on the 250's

Thanks to tintman, I installed a rekluse pro in a 05 250X everything went according to instructions. The only question I have is with regards to the clutch handle free play. I adjusted clutch free play at handle to 1cm at 4000 rpm. Now when the bike is idling the free play at clutch is at least 3 times that, Is this normal? The rekluse seems to work as it should during break in.
Thanks to all of you who are the experts who take the time to regularly contribute and help amateur wrenches like myself! It is greatly appreciated

Yes, that is normal. At idle,(bearings released) your lever should be easy to pull almost to the stop. As you bring up the RPM's,(engaging the bearings), it will stiffen up.
