    by uclafan31689 » Sun May 22, 2011 5:28 pm

Hey guys, just got my bike back together, and when i turn the gas on, it leaks from the hoses coming off the carb. Anything in particular I should look at? I got the carb apart, but it looks fine to me.....Thanks for all the help! Id be screwed w/o this site.

"hoses" or overflow hose? if it's the overflow hose then your float may be stuck open. sometimes you can knock the float bowl with the end of a screwdriver to free the float. if that doesn't work you'll have to open it up and see what's causing it to stick. may have to set the correct height as well.

On the carb, there is the hose that connects to the gas tank on/off, then there is two sets of two thinner hoses, and i think one more. The last 5 that i just described, are those the overflow? I took the carb apart, the float assembly all looks fine. Do any of the thin hoses connect to anything? The Clymers wasnt real specific in this case.

the black hose (next to the float bowl nut) is the overflow hose:

the other hoses are vent hoses.

Do any of those hoses connect to anything on the other end? I had gas leaking from at least 2 or 3 of them. Thanks for the help Ken. Seriously, with out this site, i would be screwed completely.

only one end of each hose is connected to the carb. the hoses run down to the bottom of the bike frame. when the petcock open the fuel flows into the float bowl. the float lifts and set correctly shuts off the fuel flow with the float set. if your float is working then either your float set is stuck or is damaged.

Ok. Ill look closer. Would it be normal for the gas to leak from multiple hoses then? Also, when you described setting the height, what does that entail?

from my experience when the float is stuck or set at the wrong height it leaks out of the overflow tube. to set the float height you can use this honda tool:

    http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product ... ts_id/4092

or back end of a vernier caliper. i don't have a 250R manual in front of me but the 450R/X float is set at .31in (8mm) and i believe it's the same on the 250R carbs.

    here's the instructions:
