The value is list plus whatever the dealer or person wants to mark it up and the price vairies by zip code , and what anyone is willing to pay .... right now , dealers are pretty empty of everything and getting a actual "deal" is a longshot , I was helping my buddy look for a KTM 450SXF , I could not find any , anywhere within 500 miles , I could find XC's but not any SX models of any size , I know the big Honda dealer that is close to me , has NO Honda's , he has like 2 Kawi 450s and 1 Suzuki RMZ450 and about 3 KTM off road bikes , no other bikes , no 250's , nothing , that is pretty much it , now they have craptons of Side By Sides .... but nothing for bikes , its really a sellers market , so what I would do is look up the Kelly Blue Book , or NADA Guides , and see what the going (as it varies by zip code) Retail and Used and Trade in price is for your area , then figure the price is somewhere in the middle of those highest to lowest .... Then find one ... then negotiate to get it somewhere within the boundaries you are willing to pay .... unfortunately , right now with the ports being so slow , you have to take what you can get , and try to get it before someone else has the same idea .. and hope for the best
As a example , last Sept. I wanted a new 450 since my current at the time was a 02 , so I started looking , I had to drive 300+ miles to Pasco Washington to find 1 , I don't mean find a dealer that had some to choose from , I mean 1 for the whole area , so I got the paperwork started over the phone , and drove all the way there to pick it up .... I got home and my local dealer (the one I mentioned above) got 5 of them in while I was gone .... the next day 4 of them were sold .... that is what the market is right now , its crazy and we are at the mercy of who has one and what they want you to pay if you really want it , because if you don't buy it , someone else is right there waiting in line .....
My friend got his 21 450R at Hillsboro Oregon last October , he was on his way to Salt Lake City to get one because there were none here local , and they called him while he was driving , and half way there and said they screwed up and they had a 450L not a R , so he called me as he was heading back home , I called around and found one at Hillsboro , they actually had 5 , he called them and gave his Credit Card on the phone deposit , we got there the next morning , and they had sold 3 after he talked to them which was 15 minutes before closing .... and when we got there someone was buying the last one .. so he lucked out and got one
So if you find one , and really want it , and don't want to wait a year for things to get closer to "normal" and the ports get caught back up , then grab it fast , because if you hesitate , it will be gone before you call them back in a hour .. trust me on this ... , this is what happened while I was looking and for my friend as well , we both got our bikes , but we had to jump thru hoops to get them , and had to drive several hundred miles each way to do it ... , I paid $8600 for mine , with the normal charges added on , it was $9100 when I walked out the door , not counting tax (another $560) ... my friend paid $10.100 out the door for his ...plus tax after he got back home , just like me ... (we are 6%) Washington is $10% , Oregon has no sales tax , but neither of us were Residents .. so we paid Idaho tax when we went to Register them
