CHEAP FRAME!!!!

So I dropped the bike on the side at about 10mph...on the street (don't ask)

anyway - had to replace handlebars - CHEAP!!!

BUT HERES THE REAL PROBLEM!!!

so where a footpeg would usually crack off... this did not happen. The frame actually dimpled where the foot peg is mounted - completely hollow piece of sh#t....

So I thought I was buying a honda product - and a quality build; but as it turns out - BUYER BEWARE!!!! Im going to try and send HONDA letters and I will post a picture of this soon - (as soon as I find the upload button here) ... I just purchased Ricochet Off Road Skid Plate - but this wont resolve the issue... Im really piseed- I brought this in for the 1000km service and the guys pointed it out.. I hadnt noticed. I dont know if there is a frame support or something else that can be done.. but a "dirtbike" that cant handle a simple street drop is not a dirtbike worthy of trails or anything... - Im really blazed by this.. and I live overseas and paid 2X what you guys are paying. If you have nay Honda contacts let me know - I want this issue addressed.

Good luck with Honda on this one. Pretty rare that any mfg. would say they had a defect in design/craftsmanship. Takes something to go horribly wrong (snapped parts). Honda has stepped up in the past, but they are big issues. A dent in the frame is, well, not something that I think they will care much about as a single issue. If a bunch of folks report problems with the frame then that 'may' be a game changer.

Sucks that you had this happen. I hope you get some satisfaction from them. I don't see anyone with the 2013 parts list yet. Did the dealer tell you what they run?

Dealer basically said I was sh-t out of luck and good luck - Im overseas - not the same service you get in the states...

the mechanic told me - "well, its Honda Thailand - not Honda Japan - not the same bike" ... this is the exact reason I didnt buy a Kawi KLX250 - but I guess I was wrong w the Honda -

Sorry to hear about this. The bars, that's pretty common on the steel 7/8" bars...which I believe these are. The frame at the pegs would't be common. Definitely make sure this get beyond the dealer to Honda just in case this ends up being an actual issue with materials or design.

Ken, what is the frame made out of, chromoly??
I would hope so and not just mild regular steel!

Im looking to add sliders like on streetbikes, as they do safe the bike, and if not too weird

By the way, just put on some Pirelli MT,AF Scorpion dual purpose tires and they are the trick!!!!A great change if you do a fair amount of street as we do here.
Have a lot of serious changes in mind, be on notice! Hehe

i have no specific information about the actual steel alloy used for the frame. i too would think it would be an alloy specific to motorcycle frames. the thing to keep in mind is that all steel will deform with enough force. it's why we see cars wrapped around trees and telephone poles. ;-) as far as the 250L, this was the first and only report we've received of frame damage like this. so, hopefully it was a rare scenario.
