CRF250x '04 - Lowered 2" for 14y old

Hi everyone,

I'm coming from a long line of KTMs... but for my 14y old son I decided to take a 2004 CRF250X which had barely ~30/40h on it.

I went and lowered it with RaceTech fork and shock spacer kit. Front fork spring "groove" were machined 2inches up the cartridge so that I can keep the stock springs.

We went riding today and the forks are behaving ok, the rear shock is not. Very stiff/ not confortable. Currently I have kept the stock springs both in forks and shock based on Race tech that advised to "give it a try".

My main question is , what should be a base clicker configuration for my setup. Kid is around 110/115 lbs with gears, we did set the rider sag at about 75/80mm. based on the lowered rear (2 inches) I don't know if 100/105mm is still required. Preload rings are almost to the top, about 1/4inch available to loosen.

Additionally the bike sort of stays at high idle before going down when we blip the throttle. The bike is bone stock including California emission crap.

Thank you!
Christian

For optimum suspension you will need to change the rear spring. Your sons weight is to light by a considerable amount for the OEM spring and you have the sag set a too little. That said, you may be able to adjust it for more proper sag and go lighter on the comp & rebound settings on the shock. That may work to a satisfactory point for a while.

Thanks, I am suspecting I need a rear spring but race tech isn't listing any possible springs. it says "missing wheel travel length"...
Hoping for some advise.

Seems really odd for them to not have a spring for one of the most popular 250's sold. Just call them or go to another manufacture.

Actually, just put my son on the scale and he is 124lbs!... but still no rate from racetech.
I moved the pre-load all the way up with stock spring and I have only 90mm of rider sag.

Will need to call them.
