    Brake light

    by Ryanjpalmer14 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 4:41 pm

So I have a 2006 card 250x I’m trying to get inspected for the street. Taillight works fine, but the brake light doesn’t. I noticed when I was giving it a look over. I got it to to flash once or twice but that was it. All other lights are fine. Checked wiring everything looked okay. Any ideas?

Unless you have an aftermarket brake kit there is no brake light only a taillight. You either have to fabricate your own which if I recall there is a good posting somewhere here on the sight of someone making the rear taillight into a tail/brake light or buy something like the Baja Design rear tail & brake light which is what I have on my 450X.

You need something like this with the hydraulic brake switch option:

It is easy to do, just make sure you disconnect battery when messing with wires.

That is true that you have to have the brake hydraulic switch but you also have to have the LED lights for the brake lights not the taillights. Those LED's cannot do both. Do some searching on the site and you might find the really good post on making your own or just get the Baja kit.

I could be wrong, but unless they changed the design, this is both a brake and tail light. It has 3 wires, one for the ground, one to give power for the brake light and one for the tail light. Since it uses the same 8 LEDs I think the tail light wire has a resistor of some sort to reduce the output, thus giving 2 levels of brightness.

    Hi Ryanjpalmer14,
    Not sure where you live.
If it is Australia, is your bike one with ADR approval and has the brake light fitted for road use?

Good point - Here in the USA, the "X" models are taillight only unless modified by the owner.
