New bike mod questions

Looking at a few immediate parts for my soon to arrive 250x. PAIR (smog) delete and a fuel screw.

I’ve seen the Applied Racing kit looks to be a three piece kit and the Tokyo Mods kit looks like an extra plug with some hose supplied. Which is a better kit?

Also, I’ve seen many external adjust fuel screws available. Is any one better than the others? Is it even necessary when I install a JD jet kit?

Thanks.

Any smog block off kit will be sufficient.

You don't need the externally adjustable fuel screw, but you might use it every now and then if you change altitude or temperature drastically. Really, you can set your fuel screw once and not need to touch it, unless you are a compulsive fiddler.

You don't need the JD kit. All of the recommended jet sizes are out there, and I would start at a 148 on your bike.

The biggest improvement to a 250X is an R cam.

The smog block off kits, why does the Tokyo Mods have more parts to it then? I know block offs are block offs and plugs are plugs but don’t want to be missing something I could use. I can’t find any explanation online either.

I’m going to use the R&D remote screw I guess. I will be riding in a verity of temps and altitudes. I like to fiddle too.

The R cam may be in my future but right away I want to open the air box, jet it correctly, FMF pipe, de-smog, EE (probably) skid plate and hand guards, Trail Tech Vapor and a shop manual.

I like the FMF Q pipe for weight savings, and a lithium battery for the same reason. Lots of money to save a couple of pounds. A used R cam for $50 makes it a new bike motor-wise.

I’m a big advocate for spending a little more money on a battery when you need one. Some bikes like like my RC51’s that I installed Shorai batteries in lose a significant amount. I lost over seven pounds of weight mounted up high in the tail section. Well worth the extra money and the Shorai’s have performed perfectly for many years now. My CRF is new but when I need a battery I’ll go with lithium.

I just picked up a 2004 250X and doing my research on the jetting now with the free mods I have done. All the forums I am finding is from a decade ago so maybe we can reinvent this. Let me know what smog delete kit you get. I do have the California model bike so maybe the Tokyo Mods kit is for a Cali bike?
