I'm in the camp where you ride it like you would normally. The only caveat is that it is properly warmed up before you run it through the gears. A story:
A long time ago when I was much younger and less wise, I was riding with my older cousin and his brother (Karl). Karl has been racing since the 60's and is wise beyond what I know now. Before the weekend, I had heard that he had a brand spanking new CR250R. When you're younger and not in good financial status, nothing sings a song in your head like a brand new bike. They just seemed shinier than they do now...anyway. So we get to our destination and Karl rolls out this super-shiny CR250. I'm drooling at the thought that I may get a chance to even ride this thing. My ratty old RM250 suddenly doesn't even look cool anymore. He starts it and lets it purr for a few minutes. Throws a helmet on and goes down the dirt road we were parked off of... Braaap, braaaaaaap, braaaaaap, braaaaaaaap, braaaaaaaaaaapppp as he rails through all 5 gears. He comes back and I'm like "man, that thing sounds sweet." "Karl? You just got this thing, when did you have time to break it in?"
Karl kinda shaking his head no, says with a blank stare, "I just did."
