    Oil loss

    by NCLR1 » Tue May 29, 2007 12:23 pm

I had a nasty tumble last week and rolled down a hill. My bike (luckily) stayed firm as I rolled. But, the bike was upside down for quite awhile, as I crawled back up. At the time there was a lot of oil coming through the air filter and out the drain hose, about 1/4 of a quart. I washed the bike completely, cleaned the filter, and cleaned the filter area. But, this past weekend I still had some oil leak out from the same place, not as much though. So, after an incident like this do I need to clean anything else in particular to make sure I remove all the oil (I assume it poured out through the breather)??? Thanks.

Sounds like there was still a little residual oil left over from your tumble. The only thing I can think of is disconnecting the tube completely and trying to clean it out, but I'm not sure what you would use. I don't know that its necessary though. I have over oiled air filters in the past and the oil tends to build up where it drains out the tube at the bottom of the air box. You can try cleaning that area with a rag and it will probably take care of the problem.

Hope you were not seriously hurt.

    Good luck.

I didn't get hurt. I have a protective layer commonly known as fat. Thanks for the info.

Probably left over in the breather tube. I wouldn't worry about it...just make sure your fluid levels are good.
