    i'm about to change to a 110 rear tire and also want to go a little lower with my gear ratio...

    which would be the more drastic change, 1 tooth off the front or add 2 teeth on the rear???

    1 off the front would equal 3.78 off the rear. That would be more drastic.

    You would go from 3.78 to 4.07.

    if i'm right then these are the gear ratios:

    13-49= 3.77 ratio
    12-49= 4.08 ratio
    13-51= 3.92 ratio
    13-52= 4.00 ratio

    i'm looking for a good ratio for single tracks and tight trails... already running hotcams stage 1 but looking for a little more torque in second and third... i think i'll start with 13-51... (maybe i should just trade for a 450r :D )

    You won't see a huge difference with the 13/51.

    Your stock set up is a 14/53.

    Changing out the countershaft sprocket to a 13 and leaving the 53 on the rear will give you a bunch more "grunt".

    It will make first gear unusable for anything but climbing trees. :lol:

    It will facilitate the need for more shifting. You will hit the limiter much faster.

    oooohhhh, see i haven't really looked at the sprockets, i thought stock setup was 13-49... i was just looking at going up 2 teeth on the rear...

    i ride 100% trails... tight, twisty, rocky, with a lot of hills and roots (standard east coast terrain i guess)... i love single tracks and spend as much time on them as i can... i hit a lot of trees so if i could just climb over them............. :lol:

    go with a 13/53. All I ride is single track and hill climbs. I absolutely love it. I use 2nd gear mostly in the woods. You will be able to lug it alot more and i climb most all hills in 2nd. If you try it, i guarantee you will love it.
    Besides, it's a cheap change. Less than $15 so i f you don't like it change it back.
