    cooolant reserve

    by Brando » Mon May 21, 2007 8:59 am

I have several questions I'm hoping someone can help me with.
I was at a track yesterday and jumping my '06 CRF250X, the jumps were very small but when I pulled in for a pit stop I noticed my rear tire had worn right through my coolant reserve.
This is a poor set up from what I can see. I was wondering where I can get another reserve tank...........cheap!
I also was hoping there is an after market shield or guard for this tank so I'm not replacing it again.
My Dad hasn't removed it yet but he said maybe it can be moved more to the outside toward the number plate.Has anyone else had this problem? and could anyone help me with my questions?
Thanks to everyone in advance for your help. :(

What size rear tire are you running??

The 100 will clear the tank. You must be running a 110 or a 120.

I see the tanks on E-Bay all the time. A company called Adrenaline Racing parts out bikes and is pretty reasonable price wise.

Brand new the tank isn't all that expensive.
    yeltrik.com has it.

I run a 110 and it doesn't rub the tank. Maybe something is not right with how your tire is aligned??? Check your tick marks and see if it is off??

    Good call.

Or maybe a bent subframe if you've had a hard crash or two.

I have the stock Dunlop 100/100-18 D756 tire on still and we checked the alignment marks and everything is right on.
If it wasn't for my chain being washed with the coolant and began making weird sounds,I'm not sure how long it would have been before I noticed the problem.

I'll have another good look at everything but this is the first time I've been doing any jumping and so far I've been very fortunate not to have had any bad crashes...........yet!
I only have 100 hours on the bike, maybe? and I'm not much into jumping but I maybe coming close to bottoming out cause I have been using upalot of the travel. I thought the tire should still clear that tank though?

Your stock setup will allow for the full range of motion without interference, plus some for tolerancing. Either your tire is installed incorrectly, your subframe is bent, or your coolant overflow resevoir is incorrectly installed or tweaked.

You should be able to bottom your suspension out all day and not hit anything but the inside of the fender.

    Check things out closely.
