    trans oil question..

    by xridgerider » Sun May 06, 2007 8:49 pm

I am just curious what trans oil you guys run? Is it okay to run the same type of oil as your engine? I am currently hooked on maxima semi sen 10-40. Seems to do great for both, but heard I need something heavier for trans? Thanks... oh she's a ... 05 250x.

If you are a Maxima guy, go with the Maxima MTL 80W or 85W. Makes your trans shift like butter.

You can use the same as your engine provided your engine oil has no friction reducing additives such as Molybdenum. Clutch plates aren't hip to slippery oils.

I prefer to use a transmission fluid for transmissions.

We use the Maxima MTL 85W.

My Dad does all our servicing and he uses Amsoil SAE 10w-40 Synthetic motorcycle oil in my '06 CRF 250X and all our other bikes as well. He said that as long as it specifies "NO FRICTION MODIFIERS" and is wet clutch compatible its good for the clutch and engine. :)
