    Rim size Question ????

    by rfweber250x » Tue Apr 24, 2007 5:43 pm

I have a question on rim sizes ???
    Y does the 250R have a 100/ 90-19 tire and rim and the 250x has a 100/ 100-18.....
Is there any benefit to putting the R rim and tire on my 250X ???
    Thanks

The overall circumference is the same. The R has more rim and less sidewall, the X has less rim and more sidewall.

More tire equals more weight. Not good for MX.

Less tire equals less protection. Not good for trails.

Hence the X has more tire to avoid rim damage and pinch flats from rocks.

The R has less tire so it's lighter and doesn't need the protection as MX tracks should be manicured loam or sand.

Depends on what your are using the bike for. The R has a 19' rim for less weight, but does not offer as much sidewall protection as the X's 18'. If your riding off road, you will want to stick with the 18 for more rim protection, if riding track i still would not bother. You wont see that big of a difference.
