I'm with Agent. Until recently, I'd been trying to stay as close to the recommended amount as possible (doing the side cover check-bolt removal, watching to make sure fluid just starts to come out). I think using more fluid than normal also helps lube the pressure plate throw-out bearing, which looks higher up in the center of the clutch than the recommended fill amount would contact.
