    Suspension & Lowering

    by amnt » Wed Mar 28, 2007 12:13 pm

I am 5'7" and need to lower my bike to make it a comfortable ride. I enjoy working on the bike so I would like to attempt to do my own suspension work. Has anyone lowered their own bike? I plan on changing the fork springs and rear spring and I would also like to revalve. Has anyone revalved their own suspension? Any tips?

Check into the Kouba-link lowering kit/arm. It replaces part of the rear linkage, there are three or four different sizes. I'm using the #3, I am 5'4" and I could probably go to the #4. In the instructions you will be informed to lower your fork tubes in the clamp about 1.2 inches. I did this also. You can go with re-valving and there are some links to people who do this and know their shite. I like the results with the link but I think if I were racing or richer I would go with re-valving. ;)

Agent, Do you think it will work better for me than the #3 that I have now? if so I'll sell AMNT my #3 and mount up the #4 since he is taller. :?

The CRF4 dropped PG's 250X about 2 1/4 inches. The forks were lowered about 1 1/4 inches and the bike balanced out well.

We took the bike to ESP for a suspension rework, springs, valves, the works. The expert told us that he could not adjust around a Kouba. It changed the leverages and all his formulas would be off. He lowered it by machining the stops on the inside if the forks and shock. $ 600, but it is nice.

See now THAT'S what I want to do...:P Just have to Start and Finish the house addition first!
The kouba 3 lowers the bike 1.5 to 2.0 in., If I remember correctly. I trimmed down my seat too, but I'm still not quite flat footed. Lemme ponder my diwemma. I'll let you know asap! let me know if I'm too late and someone else claims it :x
