    new noise?

    by Timmer250X » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:18 pm

    hey guys,

well i put my bike back together after it sitting apart for more than a month. i had put a new piston and spark plug in. after starting it, i seemed to hear a little noise, that i can't seem to explain, coming from the cylinder (where MY ears were telling me). it would happen at a small point in the low RPM's, and then go away when it would speed up.
I don't know if i should be worried, because i have heard other noises in the past, like from the case, and havn't had any problems. maybe becasue i just hadn't heard it run for a while. i'm just a little worried if it could be a long term thing. or maybe its just the new spark plug and/or piston. the spark plug was from a different maker than the stock honda one, but they were the exact same type, the dealer gave it to me.

if anyone has a clue, i would appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks,
    Tim

It could be the auto decomp on the cam. At low RPM's
You can hear it clicking sometimes. What all did you do to your bike? Are you sure you got it back together correctly? What about the cam chain tensioner. Lots of variables. Please post more details.

A shake at the obvious question, but could there be a chance the replacement plug is just a tad longer than the stock? If you getting noise from the cylinder area, this would make me curious.

Cowboy has good point - if you pulled out cam chain guide, I wondering if its seated properly down inside the LH case.

At the risk of doing the impossible in a message forum, what's the noise sound like? Tap tappy? Knock? Clank? Ding? Slap? (oh this is fun) Pop? Smack? :-k

This might sound crazy. I have in the past, when trying to isolate a sound/noise. I have taken a cut broomstick and placed one end on the motor and the other end against my ear. It works. I have used it several times, not only on bikes, and quads, but also on Cars. Try it. Can't hurt.

After I had some cam and carb work done... I had a problem with a clicking that turned out to be the auto comp (cowboy) kicking in due to a low speed. It's set at 1700 or so now and seems to be fine.
Try adjusting the idle and see?
