    DRC Brakelight??????????????????????????

    by beerhunter » Tue Jan 09, 2007 5:58 am

I started to install last night but came across a question.
I'm certainly not an electrician, but I think I can handle this little job.

    My question is this,

How does the one lead from the banjo bolt connect to the black power wire from the bike if that wire is already connected to the yellow from the DRC light.

Do I need to connect the three wires and if so what is the correct fitting for three wires?

    Thanks for any help,

Yes, that is what I followed but was confused about 1.

that states the black from the bike goes to both the yellow from the brake light and one lead of the hydraulic switch. I guess my question is
What is the proper method of connecting the three wires?

    thanks man,

Use 2 of those blue fold over splice blocks, they sell them at all auto parts stores, that's what they are made for, or a barrel connector with the bikes wire in one side and the 2 for the light on the other. Just crimp it really well, then tape it

I cut the power lead going to my tail light, then soldered two connectors on it, one went directly to the new light, the second went to one side of the brake light switch. I then ran the second lead from the brake light switch to the remaining wire on the tail light. Now when I step on the brake, the tail light gets bright. I am guessing the normal circuit has a resistor in it and the brake circuit has either no resistor or a much smaller one!

    DRC LED Light:

First the hydraulic brake switch works by completing a circuit to add more juice to the tail light so that it gets brighter.

    1. Black wire(power) from the bike to yellow wire from DRC and one lead of the hydraulic switch.

The above connections are to give the tail light power and to provide power for the brake light that will work when the circuit is completed by depressing the rear brake.

    2. The red wire from the DRC to the other lead from the brake switch.

    3. The green wire from the bike to the black wire from the DRC. This will ground everything.

Originally, I used the red wire as the running light and the yellow as the brake. That is how DRC labeled them, but it doesn't work properly when hooked up like that. (won't get brighter when brake is applied).

    DRC brake light

    by mistri450x » Sat Mar 24, 2007 3:30 pm

Guys I am hoping you can give me a bit more info on this. I feel really dumb for having no idea where the hydraulic switch goes. How to mount it etc.

I also have questions about the wiring. Ken, number one seems doable with one of those barrel connector thinggies. I'm good on #2. Completely lost me on #3. When I unplugged the old light, it came off of a black wire and a gray wire.

So according to your instructions I never plug that gray wire back into anything? Also, I have a green wire near those original connections but it's green with two black stripes, and it goes into a brown multiple wire connector. Do I just splice into this wire?

Sorry again for the incredible ignorance  It may be time for a basic electronics class!

    Thanks,
    Neville

Pull the bolt out of the rear brake master cylinder, using the new washers supplied, install the pressure switch in place of the bolt and tighten it down. Bleed the brakes and you should be good to go. If you are still confused, PM me and I will shoot you some photos!
    Good luck.
