When I bught my CRF450X there was a 160 tyre fitted.
The problem with it was that the chain had chewed really bad into the tyre. I bought a Pirelli 150 SM but the grip in it sucks!
I had a Yamaha WR450 before and fitted a 165 slick tyre and still had plenty of space between the chain and the tyre.
Is the swingarm wider on the R-model or are they the same? The rims are from Excel and are 4.25 inch wide.
I'd want to fit a Michelin supermoto 160 but I don't want it to end up like the first one.
Can anyone give me a hint about this. Sure it must be possible to fit a 160?

if the Michelin is a street tire for street bikes then the 160 will have chain rub issues unless plan for this with the wheel build and/or sprocket spacers. if street tire 150 is the largest. a 160 maxxis race slick will fit as it's designed for supermoto and has a different profile.

Where do I get the sprocket spacers that you mentioned? also does a 4.25 or a 5 work the best? My 5 is very close to the lower chain guide.

wow...resurrection of a dead thread. good job! really the best solution is to have your wheel builder dish the rim sufficiently to not rub on the tire. however, there really is only so much space so some chain slap can not be avoided with some larger size tires.
