First race of the year Sunday

    by Collin » Thu Mar 05, 2009 9:27 pm

I am so pumped. I got my recalled swingarm today, got the bike home, put on a new 756 Dunlop on the back and I have my first race of the season on Sunday. We are going to a Hare Scramble at Milford Lake Kansas. It will be dad's first race ever and we will start in the same class. I moved up from the youth class to beginner adult. I don't plan to see much of him around me because I am faster. Wish me luck! I will report back on how bad we did, or how injured we get. It will depend on which is more exciting.

I practiced Sat. until I got a flat rear. Dad showed up and we stayed the night in the camper. It stormed all night. Dad decided he wasn't going to get all muddy so he wasn't going to race, but I needed the points so I raced. The track was perfect! Dad rode sweeper, but got scared after some of the hill climbs. I got 14th out of 31 riders in the adult trailrider class. I was happy, got some points and found out I need a bigger gas tank. I ran 3 laps of 5 miles and needed gas. I mean I needed gas and so did the bike. It was my first race running two hours and I was beat. I ended up with 5 full laps in 2 hrs. and 4 mins. That was a podium finish in my book. I did get beat by some kid running in the Junior class on a CRF100. That was kind of embarrassing.

ha a crf100 they consume so little fuel and the kid must have raced before on that circuit heaps of times

The kid has raced somewhere before, but not in our series. By the end of the third lap he was up on me by 13 mins. I was glad they only let the Juniors race for an hour or he would have beat me in the overall. I am not going to let that happen again. I mean, I am going to try not to let that happen again. Everytime I trash talk, I end up eating my words. We are racing again this weekend. Hoping for a top ten!
