    Trail mods for 150r

    by Toobie » Mon May 19, 2008 6:24 am

Thinking about getting my 12yr. old a 150r. He rides a crf80 now and is a very good rider. He rides trails and a little mx. Also rides around our rural neighborhood. I was thinking about putting on a slightly larger rear sprocket and a quieter exhaust. Any thoughts or suggestions to mod the 150r for non-racing use to fit a variety of riding situations?

    Thanks.

Quiet pipe sounds good, try a heavy flywheel too. It will make the power smoother, so he can get used to it, then remove it just as easily when he is better to get more snap from the engine. No jetting required :D .

as long as you dont mind rebuilding the motor and checking the valves every 20-30 houres of riding go a head and the stock pipe on the 80 is the quietest. I started on the crf80 from there i moved to a crf150F then cr85 and now crf150r (is experts bike only not for beginers) is a pain to mantain but if you race compedetivly it is totaly worth it.

well the 150 is always going to be over a hundred db i dont care wat the company tells u 100 or more only pipe thats quieter is the fmf Q but i have had no luck with fmf dont like their pipes. the 150 is a serious race bike and you will have to change out the oil ever 10 hours i looked into it and i was wrong most people get about 150 hours out of the 150r befor they have to rebuild it but your call it will cost a lot more in parts than you think

FMF makes great quality pipes. You probably didn't maintain yours, because for several hundred dollars, getting a defected product from a dedicated manufacturer is rare. I'm pretty sure that they aren't mass produced, so each one would be hand-made and hi-quality. Don't spread your ignorance.

Full hand guards aren't that bad.... I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you crashed and got a concussion while wearing a helmet, would you advise people not to wear them too? You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.....

i understand what you mean but think about it hand gaurds hurt me worse than if i didnt have them but a helmet helped save me and has never made my crash worse than if i didnt have it, even when i cracked it it help a lot hand gaurds have never done anything for me in a chash even tho they have done things for other people i would rather have taken the chance of bruseing up my hands than brakeing my fingers all and all they are work hands do what u want i am just telling you the risk and penalty

    Trail riding definetly hand guards.
    Mx riding then no guards.

Hondapunk53 you need to chill as well.
Don't try and come across as an authority on everything.

Speak of your personal experiences for sure, but let others do the same.

If there is one thing I know about bikes, is there a lots of different combinations that work for different riders.

    .
    Do take his advice.
We enjoy helping people here and sharing what we've learned through experience.
You are not however going to be spreading what can only be called bovine feces without getting called on it. Someone new to the sport may read some of that wildly inaccurate stuff you're spreading and actually believe it's true.
If you're trying to impress anyone you're failing.
For instance, FMF has a very long and deservedly outstanding reputation. You're 13? And :
all i said was they didnt put out the power that i found in other pipes

What then would be your broad experience, a couple years ago when you ran one on a 50 ? Please.
Spare us too the handguard fairy tale.
Same with the 100db thing. You're wrong. Several companies with sterling reputations since long before you were born are advertising pipes for that bike 96db and below.
I suggest before you post anything imagine that who reads it has a lot of experience and can't be BS'd, because you're coming across as exactly that, a BS'er who is posting a lot of short fiction.
Then, get a dictionary and look up humility. Think about what it tells you. Doug

I accually had them in my cr85 and my xr80r I am not saying they make bad pipes its just not what i wanted i am just saying whats on my mind. and i am not making up story's to help prove my point, and i am not calling you and idiot or a "B.Ser" so i dont see any reason for a moderator to... you are using my age against me and saying or acting like i dont know anything. I dont know much but I do know something. I dont apreasiate you refereing to my experience as a fairy tale. So tell me doug what do you want from me you keep commenting on everything i say, quoting me so let it out.

from now on if you disagree with me in any topic i will simply go on the the next and anser them best i know how i am not going to waist my time arguing over something like this its annoying to keep having to reply to the words that you take out of my mouth and twist them to your advantage. there is no point in it
