150R Hard starting when hot and bog off the gate!!

    by blind180 » Fri Jul 13, 2007 9:13 pm

Great site, just found it. My 13 year old son is riding / racing a 07 150R Expert in Supermini. We recently put a Boyeson quick shot and msr fuel screw on it, other than gearing and suspension work the bike is like stock. I put the quick shot on my 250F and wow! He noticed more snap on the 150 but we discovered someting tonight at practice, off the gate starting in 2nd like he always has there is a noticeable bog. He does not over rev the bike ( thank god) like alot of kids coming off 2 strokes but his starts are not going as good as prior, i worked the gate tonight and could here it. i asked him if he was in 3rd, he said no it was bogging. The fuel screw is set at stock range (2-2.5), i don't have the jetting handy but the bike was bought from a shop that dyno tested it and had made changes from stock for our climate / region because the stock did not work well. The bike is awesome and runs great. The only problem we have had is that if he goes down while racing it is a bear to start no matter what you do and the current issue of bogging leaving the gate....sorry for the rambling. we have had the recall and valves recently checked.
    - Any suggestion on the fuel screw or jetting, we are in florida with all the heat and humidity?
    - can someone provide more detail on wiring the ap and throtle cables together as i heard this is a must?

    Thanks again....great site!!!!

Thanks for great info, we did part one and he rode today. Huge diff. in throttle response even more than when we put on quickshot. Could not gate today so we don't know for sure, but he said he took off hard and it did not hesitate at all!
We are ot sure yet on the hard start after a dump. we had a good practice. What has happened is in race mode if he goes down, it takes 10-20 kicks. I have laid the bike down and had him pick it up to refire to watch if he is doing something odd and can't see anything. Has any one expirienced hard starts after a fall? I know it is race mode and maybe he is panicked somewhat, but maybe there is a secret someone has found that works all the time?
Thanks again for all the help!!! i'll do my 250F next.

the bog and hard starting are really two different problems. one is jetting and one is accelerator pump. the stock jetting on this bike is HORRIBLE in nearly all situations. get the jd jetting kit and be done with the hard starting. this will also give you better throttle response as well as more power throughout.

For the hard starting when it's hot, I usually shift it into neutral. Even though that takes a little time in the race, my 150 always seems to start better when it is in neutral.

I'd like a copy of the AP Cam to throttle cam mod too please.
My son has totally stock CRF150R, what jetting and carby setting for the Northern Territory, Australia? Usually humid and hot for 6 months of year (avg 40 degress C) the other six months drier and a littl cooler (avg 30 - 35 degrees C).

We are roughly 180 - 200 mt above sea level but 300 kms from the coast.

    All help appreciated. :)
