    Rumors of cams snapping

    by arrgh » Fri Jan 12, 2007 1:21 pm

I read on TT that cams are breaking on the 150 R, 2 confirmed, 5 rumored.

    Anyone else hear of this?
Few things are harder to put up with than the annoyance of a good example.

yeah man i heard about that too... that would suckkk if it actually happened much... but i don't see any reason that they would snap other than just sittin on the rev limiter

i haven't heard one single verified case. i'm not saying this isn't possible or that those reports aren't true but i would be skeptical until you hear it from someone you actually know. keep in mind that anyone can post anything on the internet and that doesn't make it true.

This time honda did. It was for a good customer. I would worry how I rated with honda. Would I get a new motor?

Honda is like everyone else. Once and a while the design or heat treating is not up to the task.
Look at the 1800 gold wing. When they came out frames cracked ( on a f'ing street bike!!!) and the motors overheated. The suspension on hondas flagship is junk. Look at the kit traxxion dynamics has for them.
The stock wing has a damper rod in only 1 fork ( on a bike that heavy?) Look at how undersized the triple clamps are. The fork springs belong on some 600 cruiser not an 800 lb touring bike.

I was talking to the local honda dealer here in FL and they stated that the cam is hollow. thats why the cams have been snapping in two.

I just talked to my dealer and he said the cams are letting go next to the #2 intake lobe.
One guy has cracked 3 cams. Guy admits to riding hi rpm's.

hollow or solid doesnt matter, cast (150)vs. steel (450) does.
    Fear not!
Hot Cams stage one and two BILLET STEEL cams will be available very soon, for the 150R!
