    Cam installation problems

    by Dirtdiver73 » Sat Jun 09, 2012 5:59 am

I've read the "how To" articles and have adjusted my valves several times before. i just got my head back and replaced my piston. I cant seem to get the cam to drop down into the head no matter what. The fly wheel mark and right side crank index mark are on point. Has someone had this problem before?

The only time I had trouble installing my cam it was a problem with chain tension. Make sure the chain is free with no tension. If you pull the black chain guide out and installed it with a bit of blue loctite, make sure the loc tite didn't seep onto the bushing. Thats what happened to me, the chain guide would not move freely on the bolt because loctite had hardened on it.

My problem was on a crf250r

What bike are you working on? I assume you can't get the chain over the cam gear correct?

Crf250x. I can't get the cam to rest in the cam journals. I am getting back at it right now. I think the cam chain was off of the crank gear.

Scratch that. Put cam chain on crank gear and she's good. Thanks for the assist brother.
