    "Alpine Trail" in Uncompahgre ?'s

Taking a week and headin' to Ouray! First time down there, so, got me one of them-thar maps. Scanning it, I see something you don't see a lot of on the National Geographic Trails Illustrated maps.... Pictures of a dirt bike with the words "No ATV's" highlighted next to it. It's labeled Alpine Trial - 225. Runs from Silver Jack Reservoir to Alpine Road/868. Looks sweet! Elevations go from ~9000 to ~12000 real quick-like and back a couple times with some high meadows in between. Who's ridden this before? Is the best method of trailering to the trail head from Ouray over Owl Creek Pass? Looks like it... Anywhose, just looking for some first-hand experience if it's worth loading up, or riding the plethora of other 'roads' around Ouray. PM me if necessary!

Been quite a while since I been there, but I thought they waz just regular gravel roads, not too exciting...... In fact, we pulled a camper too Silver Jack Resv, (or meybe we tent camped that year??). Was pretty good flyfishing below the dam though.

We did a dual sport ride from Ouray up to Nate Creek Trail (pictured above) which is west of the Alpine Trail. We were hoping to make a big loop out of the two trails, but it just so happened that both of us busted our radiators about halfway through the Nate Creek Trail. NOT good. One of those freak things. We made it out by riding short distances and shutting the bikes off and letting them cool back down. Took forever to get out to the road. My buddy's WR finally died completely. I had a 'buddy tow' strap which we used to tow his broken WR with my wounded X. Luckily, we did this on the last night of the trip, so we didn't lose out of a whole trip.
The trail itself was real single track. It was SWEET. It hardly gets ridden, so it was overgrown with high grasses. It had the slick, slimy mud and downed trees aplenty when we were on it (thus the radiator breakage). I have since replaced the crappy Works Connection radiator "braces" with some CRD ones. I don't worry about my radiators anymore.
I'm looking forward to returning and making the trail my bitch instead of the other way around. :D
