    Idaho New Registration laws 2009

Who ever came up with this garbage obviously doesn't ride off road vehicles!!!

    The price is inexpensive...but,

The requirement for all dirt bikes, Quads, and all other off road vehicles to bolt a license plate to the back of their beauty is just wrong!

All I can say is that there is no way I'm putting a License Plate on The 450R just so I can ride some trails.

Wow. And I had pride that Idaho wasn't as complicated as Utah, but that is just ridiculous.

Yea Hopefully the law is being amended , i have sent emails to Amy Smith of the Idaho DOT , and Michael Robinson, of Parks and Rac, and they are working with us to hopefully ammend this ignorant law , since even if u have a motocross bike , it has to have a title and plate , sorry but i am not doing it , , this law was made for farmers that ride on the road and in their feilds , yet they are exempt...makes no sense whatsoever , it is a blanket law that the idiots that made it , didn't look at properly , nor was anyone allowed to vote on it except for the lawmakers themselves

    send complaints here :

    [email protected]

    [email protected]

Tell them the same thing i did , that the law is first off "unsafe" for off road bikes that are strictly ridden "off-road" and that it is completely stupid and highly unsafe for a motocross bike , and that you do not ride on the road , as well that if non residents don't need it , then neither should you , last i heard it was supposed to be ammended , but i havn't heard back from Amy Smith in a while , i guess i will email her again today , to see what has happened if anything on making the plate a "option"......

    Well put.

I will not do it. They will have to see that I don't have a plate and hunt me down. I doubt most people will do it. if they can catch me I guess I deserve a Ticket.

Overall I think they will lose a lot of money because you can't simply go to the dealer anymore and pick up a 10 dollar sticker.

I will also write an email expressing my views.

Even if I did comply to this new law it that stupid little plate wouldn't last a year with the terrain I ride.

I'm going to look into this more and hopefully see if there aren't any other resources to fighting it.

I just recieved a email from Amy Smith , this is what she told me ,By the way she is a great person , and has been very helpful and understanding , she is also a avid off-roader , so she is on our side .She also gave me the info below on the 50cc ban . and it looks like good news.. for both issues.. !!

    This was her reply :

    Hi Jim,

The bill that includes language to fix this situation is Senate Bill 1098, and it passed through the Senate late last week. It is now in the hands of the House Transportation and Defense Committee. Since this has been an important issue for all, I would guess that the bill will have a hearing fairly soon, maybe Thursday, or next week on Monday or Wednesday.

The members of the House Transportation and Defense Committee will vote on it after the hearing, and if it passes, will be sent to the House floor for a full vote. You can track the bill’s progress at: http://www.legislature.idaho.gov/legisl ... gIndex.htm

If you go out to look at the proposal, please make sure you look at what’s called the “engrossed” version, as it had technical amendments that had to be made, because the original proposal had errors. If the bill receives final approval in the House, then it goes to the Governor, and the majority of the changes become effective upon his signature. The biggest change being the option for the plate, based on where you intend to ride, whether it be a motorbike, ATV, or UTV. If you are strictly riding off-road or on state and federal lands, then you will only need the sticker. If operating on local jurisdiction roads, then you will need the plate and sticker.

Hope that helps, and very best of luck to you and a speedy recovery from your surgeries.

P.S. I’ve seen the other issue regarding the small motorbikes and ATV’s in the news a lot recently, looks like they’re trying to get something done in D.C. on that issue.

No Prob !! , I hate it when people make decisions that affect others , especally when it affects ME !! , yet they know nothing about the bills they are passing or how it affects others , that is why i contact the people that can make a difference , as every vote counts only when you are told it can be voted on , both of these laws(the plates and the 50cc laws) were done without input from those it affects and only Officials were givin the right or ability to vote on these matters

The 50cc law for example was put in effect with only 2 votes*imagine that*it was a unanamous 2 to 0 vote to pass...

The plate law was not brought up to public opinion or public vote......*go figure*
