I am looking for a good place to ride in the Galveston area and not just at a track. I would like to find some open area where my son and I could ride.

don't know about the galveston area, but if you don't get any responses and you are not opposed to driving a few hours, consider the red river motorcycle trails in muenster tx, 26 miles NW of Gainesville. You can camp out there also.
I know that's a long way from where you are but it's 2500 acres of every imaginable type of terrain.

It is an awesome place for you and the whole family. Great camping, restrooms, shower, rv hookups, free bike wash, etc......The trails are awesome too. The even have a mini mx track. Try it out. It's worth a weekend trip!
