    Anyone here from AZ?

    by slomotobug » Wed May 24, 2006 8:56 am

Anyone do any early am rides in the summer? I usually ride the Pima/Dynamite area or anywhere I can get to for an early am ride, before it gets too hot.

Here in the BHC area, early am rides are great until the end of May usually. Then we get into full boating mode until the first part of October. But have been known to go out and sweat gallons to for a high speed "Sandwash Fix" in July and August. But a rough discission when it's 90 degs at 5am  !!!!!!!

    slomotobug,

Do you drive all the way from Casa Grande to Pime/Dynamite to ride? I'm in Chandler, AZ. There are fewer and fewer places to ride. Rolls OHV near Lake Saguaro has some decent trails as well.

Yes, I can get there in about 45-50 minutes with no traffic from my house. I grew up in Chander and had to get out of the rat race so I moved down here. I can ride a few short trails right out of my garage, but those are getting shut down now too. I don't go up to Four Peaks much any more, too many quads and trucks there, if I go that far, i go just past four peaks, there is a ton of good riding just 15 minutes past the Four Peaks road, and no quads, too tight.

Riding the mile markers west of Lake Pleasant

    by Ed » Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:22 pm

Have you ventured out to MM 4 or 11.5, west of Lake Pleasant. MM 11.5 is where the National Enduro has been held. There are a lot of single track trails, some get pretty tough.

Pima/Dynamite is in my back yard. Just got back from there. My buddy and I ride at either 4:30 or 5 am. Its great because there are just a few people out and we finish while others are just pulling in.

    North West Valley riding areas?

    by hypnotx » Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:54 pm

We just moved to Peoria, AZ.

Anywhere in the area we can go riding?

We need to have a place the kids can ride around the staging area and some more challenging stuff as well, if possible.

We went to the Cottonwood area OHV park the other day, and something like that... a bit closer to Peoria, Glendale or Surprise would be perfect!!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    staging at pima / dynamite

    by hypnotx » Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:56 pm

We drove out by Pima & Dynamite the other night, and were wondering exactly where you park your vehicles, and which direction(s) you can ride from there (without riding into someone's back yard!)

We also drove out to the Bartlett Lake turnoff where the OHV parking lot is.

Is there a lot of riding out there?

    Thanks for your input!!

We park on the north east corner under the power lines, you can ride from there to the OHV parking on Bartlett road, and yes there is a ton of riding out there. If you start at Pima and Dynamite, that is state trust land, about half way to Bartlett road going north it turns into Tonto national forrest. If you park on state trust land you are supposed to have a yearly permit that is $15 and a pain in the rear to get, but 20 years of riding in this state, I've never been asked to see mine. If you park on the Tonto up there, you are supposed to go all the way to Bartlett lake, and pay a day use parking fee, again, something I've never done. There is a trail map and a box of maps at the Pima and Dynamite parking lot, it's a good idea to get one of those since recently they closed a large number of trails out there but have not yet clearly marked them. Even with all of the closed trails you can still ride over 100 miles of single track without riding the same trail twice. Other than the area that is closed north of bartlett road, Pima and Dynamite area is about the best desert single track you'll find anywhere. As far a a good staging area for kids to ride, the OHV lot on Bartlett road is better, or even go all the way to camp creek wash on that same road, good kid/quad riding, and all of the good bike trails either start or end up there. I just start at P/D because it's another 18 miles on my already long drive to get to Bartlett road.

Another great area is out by Lake Pleasant off of the Carefree highway, I'm not as farmilliar with that area, I've ridden there a number of times, but always with someone that knows the area. Something like mile marker 11 is what they always say is where they are parking. Welcome to the state. Like I said, I've been riding here for over 20 years, and have'nt touched even 10% of what we have

My 2 favorite places to ride are out by Pima/Dynamite as described, or you can take Dynamite all the way east until it ends in Rio Verde.

I think that the rec area out there is called Needle Rock and some of the trails go forever.

Terrain gos from very sandy washes to rocky cliffs, it is a lot of fun.

    Entrance fee is $6.

You can ride from Pima and Dynamite to the Verde, no cost, it's about a 40 mile loop, doesn't take long though, about 20 miles is HIGH speed wash. It's actually a fun ride, especially when you mix different trails in between the 2 places. Ride from Pim and Dynamite to camp creek wash, then take the wash till you hit the Verde. Great one in the summer. :D

    Hi,
I'm up in Surprise at the 303 and Bell...we are filthy w/places to ride up here! The one thing I' am seeing more and more is signs requiring "Written permission" to use state land. This consists of a $20 donation to the land use office and you get your written permission. Otherwise it's a $500 fine and I have seen 1 handed out so far.
let me know if you are looking for more places up this way. We are going out tomorrow...and prob sun too now that the heat is cooling off.
