Can any one tell me of a good spot to camp in the Sedona area.
And is the riding anygood over there. Planing on heading down there around the 24th of March. With my two girls and hanging out for a week.
Wanted to also do the tourist thing in town. WE just want to get out of the snow, as of today we have had 10 FEET 9 INCHES from the end of October. Just want to sit in the DIRT. Thanks Keig

What are you camping in? Looking for forest service roads or something more challenging?

Hey Redrooster
We have a side in camper for the truck, that is pretty big in height so nothing to tight or steep. And will be towing a 18' flatbed (if the riding in the area is worth bring them). Thanks

Not to much riding i the Sedona proper area, tons within 30 miles. If developed camping is what you are looking for that I suggest the Beaver Creek campground. It is about 30 miles from Sedona and some riding. Enough for a day or two, plenty for kids.
My favorite spot would be the Bull Pen camp ground, but that may be tight for your set up.
If you are interested in any of these spots let me know and I can direct you. If I think of anything better I'll post it.

We like to boondock, my wife ideal of ruffing it is when the generator is out of gas and the curling iron won't work, lol.
The truck and camper is a crew cab (4x4) with the slide in camper that hangs over about 2 feet on the back and the 18foot flat bed. If that helps determine any good boondocking spots. 30miles not bad, like I said if the riding not worth the hassel of draging all the gear behind us then will just do the full blown torist thing and hike some trails. Thanks again for your help and info. Keig

Well you have to decide than, loads of riding in Central
Arizona, from tough mountain single track (AZ mountain, not the rockies) to miles and miles of forest service roads.
On the same decision tons of hiking as well. The Sedona
area in general is more of a hiking area, the place is surrounded by wilderness with the exception of the jeep tour roads.
The places I mention are in the red rocks, just not in Oak Creek Canyon. I dont belive the campgrounds are open yet in the canyon.
Have fun whatever you decide to do.
