the 450X would be my choice.

The versatility of the bike speaks volumes alone. We have seen this bike in dress ranging from Off Road Racer to Dual Sport to MXer to SuperMotard. All seem to be done very well. I think the choice of the bike is a shoe in. The challenge will be to select the parts with the vast array of choices

what about the CRF350 Honda never built?
you could make that a 400 and use the XR400 engine
inexpensive, lightweight, street legal, dual sport, commuter, fun-bike

which one? see that's my problem...we can only deliver one! i've thought of several different bikes that would be a blast to spec and build. in reality with the time we have getting one defined and built will be challenging. for me i'd really like to see the bike that would represent this forum and honda CRF's the best.

once we pick the bike we'll need to pick the type of bike we're building. if you guys select the 450x, as it has a strong lead right now, what kind of bike will it be? a supermoto, mx, enduro, desert, mild-mannered trail bike, dual-sport, etc.?

after we select the bike and the style of bike we're going to build, then the fun really begins. we'll need to focus on enhancing each area of the bike (suspension, power/delivery, weight, protection, egonomics, appearance, etc.) i'll create threads for each of these to help us stay focused.

while this artical won't be a "shootout" the reality is the testers and those reading the article are going to be evaluating our work and comparing it with the work of the other forums. so are we up for this challenge? absolutely! you don't have to be the largest online community to be the best...let's prove that.

ken, i would like to see the 450r as the project bike, but i think that the 450x would represent the fourm the best considering there was 13,854 post the last time i checked the 450x fourm. it seems to be the most popular bike on the fourm

Just my $.02 cents worth but I'd say it would be counter-productive, no matter the bike selected, to attempt to re-engineer it into something it's not. I understand Ken was only throwing out examples above but my point is why select the 450X only to turn it into an MX, Dual-Sport or motard bike if that's not the way we ride them? If such becomes the paradigm then most of our input as a user/owners becomes moot simply because few, if any of us configure and ride the X this way.

Whatever the bike selected we should strive to improve upon it's strengths while correcting it's weaknesses, not redesign it in an attempt to turn it into something it's not. We're not looking at a long lead time anyway. Lets not endeavor to reinvent the wheel.

Ken, How long until you confirm that we are going to build a 450X?

i was thinking of letting the voting and commenting on bike selection go for the rest of today and then finalize the bike selection tonight around 10 PT. Let me know if you feel it should go on longer than this.

    Ken,

With so many positives already the only choice would be the 450X, this would be the ideal platform to build upon. With many of the fine ideas already mentioned I don't think I could add anything more as far as goodies! The bike speaks for itself so add the items Honda should have included to begin with and you have created the best trail bike ever.

By the way I'm 30 minutes away from you so any help with the project, I'm there for you and CRF's only!

I like what Rob said, the other stuff woud be fun, but this is an off-road bike and we need to just polsh it up a little, I think. Doug

I love my 450r, but the 450x gets my vote. The very best bike to represent this forum and the mojority of the posts here.

I think the 450x modified like many of the owner's bikes here would impress anyone compared to stock form.

I tend to agree. Although I do have plans to dress my bike up in as many ways possible, it would be remiss of us to make it into anything other than the Off Road machine it was intended to be. I would really like to assist in creating a one off graphics design for the bike to represent the fine folks here at CRF's
