Crf150f, no 5th gear

I’ll keep this short. Bought a bike that seemed mint. Couldn’t test myself, too big. Seller insisted the bike was in good working order. Didn’t ask him to go through the gears bc it was snowing. Got it home. My daughter went to upshift to 5th, and nothing. No response. Bike might as well be in neutral. There are no other symptoms. No noises and all other gears work perfectly fine. But there is no power provided in 5th at all. There is also no noise or issue when shifting back down to 4th to continue riding. So in a nutshell, is there a chance that this is something simpler than a shift fork and gear replacement or am I looking at paying more to repair than the $1800 that I paid for the bike?

Hi BHamJ and welcome to the site.

Have you tried putting the bike up on a stand and running through the gears with engine off and using back wheel to drive.

Make sure the shifter can move enough to engage fifth gear.
I have got false neutrals before because of my boot and not enough clearance to shift cleanly.

I haven’t tried that, but sounds like a good idea. Was beginning to get worried bc everything I was reading lead me to believe it could be more serious. I’ll give it a shot and let you know. I sincerely hope it’s not a shift fork. The bike is in such mint condition otherwise that the manufacturer sticker (Brazilian made) looks like it’s never seen the outdoors. Thanks again and I’ll post my findings
