    Clutch Steel Plates question

    by FrankNJ » Fri Dec 18, 2020 6:07 pm

I just changed out the clutch installing the heavy duty kit from crfsonly including removing the judder spring and replacing the first friction plate with a full size plate, so 5 full size friction plates. However, I re-used the original steel plates but did not put them back in the original order. In looking at the parts catalogue, the first steel plate has a different part number than the other three steel plates. Does the order of the steel plates matter? In other words, are the steel plate unique that a specific steel plate has to be in a specific order?

When removing the Judder setup , you remove the Judder Spring (the thin ring) , the thin friction plate and the thin steel plate , then just install a regular size friction in place of the 3 parts ....

Yep, I did that. Then you add a steel plate followed by friction plate and repeat. In total, there should now be five friction plates and four steel plates. To me, the four steel plates seem identical. However, in the parts catalog, one of them has a different part number.https://www.revzilla.com/oem/honda/2018 ... crf250laac

If they are all the same size physically (they should be the exact same size) then it should not matter the position , the 450R only uses the single friction plate in place of the Judder Spring , Steel Disk and small Friction Disk , are you sure you are not meaning the Friction Disk has a different # ,??? , the 450 does , and it goes to the front (the last one you install)

It's pretty clear in the parts diagram. Check out this link that shows the first steel disk as a different part number from the other three steel disks: https://www.revzilla.com/oem/honda/2018 ... crf250laac
I don't feel like tearing the thing part to find out, so I literally just ordered item 7 and 8 above to look at them. It's strange because a few people have put up tutorials on YouTube but never mention whether the steel disks are different.

Hmmm .. The 450 shows just a fiber as the different part # , so the setup must be different as you don't add a steel to the 450 ... must be something specific to the L

Looking at it again , it is in the back , so I am thinking that is a thin one for the Judder Spring setup , maybe , thin like narrow .... :-k
