    1984 CR250 and Hi I'm new

    Hello everyone,

Happy to be here and looking forward to learning as much as I can. I've been riding off and on dirt and street since I was 6 years old (37 now). My best friend's dad who had a significant part in my upraising just gave me his 1984 CR250. This is the bike he taught us mechanical knowledge on. It was the start of all my mechanical and practical knowledge. This bike was the start to my dirt biking and love for bikes. It has many many memories. I loaded it up in my truck and he said it hasn't ran in over a decade. then he said he'd actually haven't tried to start it. So when I got it back to my house I started kicking and on the 3 try it turned over and was ready to run. He always kept his stuff pristine. So now I'd like to update it as best as I can and that's where I need help.

Can anyone give me advice on what parts I can use to replace stuff. For example I want to replace the exhaust, but I have no clue which to get or what will fit. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

Hello, I had the same bike in the mid 80's. Not sure on parts that will be available for the bike. I had the stock exhaust on mine since it was basically as good as any of the aftermarket expansion chambers. If yours in damaged and cannot be repaired I would look for a stock one on ebay or look into some aftermarket brands like FMF or Pro Circuit, DG are a few that made expansion chambers for those bikes. The silencer was available from the same companies.
Those where pretty stout bikes. Pretty tough to kill them old CR's.

Hi Bajaking9 and welcome to the site.
Yep tough bikes and really good and plush suspension over ruts.
I would stay with stock exhaust if you can because it worked well.

If it has sat for 10 years you may have to do fork seals in a little while.
Don't bother changing them till they start weeping though.

I think you are lucky getting such a bike.

Can you post up some pictures when you get a chance.
If only to make Neil feel a lot younger and reminisce.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas
