With the ignition cover off you should see some marks on the flywheel , the T mark should point straight up and align with the mark on the case , the cam sprocket should have a dot , it should face straight up as well , and the sprocket bolts should be level like this
O O , I believe that engine has 2 timing chain tensioners , one near the bottom of the cylinder , at the rear on the left side , and one near the top of the head on the same side (ignition cover side) , the bottom is the main one for setting the basic tension and should automatically set once you loosen the adjuster bolt , then once the bike is running , if you hear any ticking , you adjust the top one on the head to fine tune it if needed .....

From memory with the little xr engines, with the lobes facing down the cog goes with O marking at the top.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

Yikes !!! , hopefully you have a replacement gear because that one is toast  ....... but to answer your question , you align one of the teeth directly centered to the keyway

And I am guessing a new tensioner as well to stop it happening again.
Have to be the worst sprocket I have seen.
