    250x muffler dampening

    by Mtngoat00 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 12:05 am

Hi, i have a 2006 crf250x and plan on racing Hare Scramles. There is a noise requirement of 96dB. I have the stock pipe and it seems pretty loud. When I measure the dB with an iPhone app it registers over the limit. Anyone else ever had a problem with this? Other than a new muffler any other solutions. It does not seem I can re-pack it since there does not appear to be any fiberglass packing. When i remove the spark arrester all I see are welded baffles. Help please !!!

The stock muffler is pretty quiet by comparison to many, if not all, of the aftermarket mufflers. Keep in mind that correctly measuring the sound output of a muffler has to follow specific standards both with the measuring device (not a app) how far from the muffler and at what angle. I recommend you find out exactly how your racing organization will be measuring sound output and with what device and get the device and test according to their process. It's the only way to know for sure if you will pass or not.

What he said. The stock muffler is not loud when compared to aftermarket ones.
